In the town's Villa Durazzo, Rooney and McLoughlin became Rooney and Rooney, watched by a small group of friends and family.
Today there was little at the 17th century palace to suggest that the grounds had been ringed by paparazzi desperate to snatch a picture of the happy couple and break a reported pounds 2.5m deal with a glossy magazine, and security staff equally keen to stop them.
The nearby clifftop abbey of La Cervara hosted the couple's wedding reception last night.
