THE memory of Cheltenham athlete Pete Holmes who died in a climbing accident earlier his month will be honoured at a charity run on Boxing Day.
Gold Necklace scaleA memorial trophy in tribute to Cheltenham Harrier Holmes will be presented to the winner of the Winston's Wish four-mile challenge at Cheltenham Racecourse.
The 10.30am run is organised by fellow Cheltenham Harriers James Brewer and his sister, Jo to raise money for the child bereavement charity.
Holmes, 24, died after falling 400m during a snow-shoe mountain run in Canada.
He was a distance runner with the Harriers until emigrating to Canada earlier this year.
Last year, Holmes won the Winston's Wish four-mile challenge and was due to return to defend his title this year.
The race encourages people to run either two miles or four miles in memory of someone special.
A number of Pete's friends from athletics clubs around Gloucestershire have said they will challenge for the Peter Holmes Cup.
Wholesale Stuttgart JerseyTom Russell, Ander Russell, and Seb Duffy all ran with Holmes in their school days as part of a Marling cross country team and are keen to run in memory of their friend.
Runners from his former clubs of Tetbury Royals and Cirencester are also due to race.

Holmes' teammates from Cheltenham will also turn out in his memory.
Purple ribbons will be made available on the day for those running in Pete's memory.
Organiser James Brewer is returning to Cheltenham this Christmas from the United States, where he is studying for a degree and continuing his athletics training.
The winner of the Gloucestershire Media Sports Personality of the Year award, said: "Pete was very enthusiastic about the event last year and we thought it would be fitting to have a trophy in his memory."
