Award shows they loved us yeah, yeah, yeah

LIVERPOOL'S Mathew Street Festival has won an accolade.

The 2004 event, Europe's biggest free music festival, won a silver award in the live category of at the Event Awards organised by Event magazine.

More than 300,000 people attended last year's festival to watch 150 bands from 20 countries perform on outdoor stages and at more than 40 indoor venues.

Lee Forde, events manager at Liverpool Culture Company, said: "As we head towards 2008 it is one of the city's key annual events. This award shows it's now recognised as one of the best in the country."
